  3.     The report on how churches search for a new pastor
  4. (RELIGION, Dec. 19) shows that many mainstream Protestant
  5. denominations persist in pursuing liberalism. Apparently
  6. pastoral leaders fail to understand the connection between this
  7. liberalism and the 25% membership loss that has occurred in
  8. churches in the past 20 years. Because we have an oversupply of
  9. ordained clergy seeking church posts, we have overstaffed our
  10. administrative positions. We should focus our attention back on
  11. basic parish evangelism.
